Questions of Creativity & Innovation: A conversation with Ron Gross ☆

| March 23, 2011

Innovation – what is it?  How do we nurture it in K-16 education and adult organizations, especially in an age that puts such a premium on standardization and accountability? How do we “know it when we see it?” Does it look the same around the world?

These are some of the questions that will be tackled in the Symposium’s Friday morning panel discussion. A group of esteemed scholars, researchers, and practitioners will come together in an effort to help construct a diverse framework of thinking around these issues.

To aid in the facilitation of this exciting discussion, the Symposium is pleased to have author, speaker, and out-of-the-box thinker Ron Gross, aka Socrates,  who conducts twice-monthly Socratic Conversations at the Gottesman Library. As an experienced presenter and facilitator, Ron has participated in a wide array of conferences around the world, working toward the goal of generating the greatest impact possible for both participants and attendees.

Here, Ron shares some of his thoughts on the nature of the discussion, why this topic is relevant today, and what he hopes will come out of it.

What makes this session at the Creativity, Imagination, and Innovation Symposium unique?

Never has so much talent and wisdom been brought together to address these questions – on the platform, and in the audience!   Attendees will have plenty of opportunity to interact with the panelists with questions and with their own thoughts.

Why are innovation and creativity so important in education and adult organizations? Why should we look at these concepts through a critical lens, as we will in this panel discussion?

Without innovation and creativity we will fail to find new goals, values, and strategies – all of which we desperately need today.   But we must also be critical of our own ideas in this field,  in order to build the future on solid foundations.

What do you hope panelists and attendees will glean from the discussion?

Inspiration…Understanding…Appreciation…Know-how.   And fresh dedication to experiencing the joys of creation, and sharing those joys  with others.
